JUNIOR
HIGH
SCHOOL
Grade 7 is a pivotal year. Students are entering early adolescence, a stage marked by rapid intellectual, emotional, and social development. They are beginning to think more independently, question ideas, and form a stronger sense of identity.
At COJ, the Junior High School program which starts at Grade 7, is designed to support students through this important transition with clarity, structure, and care.
Learning at this level is purposeful and demanding. Students are encouraged to understand concepts deeply, explain their thinking, and take increasing responsibility for their work. Teachers guide learning closely, combining discussion, inquiry, and direct instruction as appropriate.
Academic expectations are clear. Students learn how to manage time, meet deadlines, and approach challenges with perseverance. Rather than relying on pressure alone, we help students develop motivation, discipline, and ownership of their learning—skills that are essential for success in Senior High School and beyond.

Small class sizes make a significant difference during this stage. Teachers are able to mentor studentsindividually, offering guidance and support as they navigate academic demands and social pressures.
Formation and values take on special importance in the Junior High School years. Students are encountering more complex choices, influences, and moral questions. At COJ, Christian formation during Junior High School focuses on developing conscience, discernment, responsibility, and integrity.
Faith is presented not as a set of imposed answers, but as a source of meaning and guidance. Students are encouraged to reflect on their choices, consider their impact on others, and grow in integrity and compassion.
Families often ask whether a progressive Junior High School education prepares students for more traditional Senior High School environments. Our experience shows that students who learn how to think, communicate, and take responsibility adapt well to a variety of academic settings.
Junior High School at COJ is not simply preparation for the next school. These are formative years that help students grow into capable learners and compassionate young leaders, ready to engage the wider world with confidence and purpose.
