Our Approach to Learning
COJ Catholic Progressive School
At Cradle of Joy (COJ), we believe that education should do more than deliver information. It should help children learn how to think, how to understand, and how to grow with confidence.
Children learn best when learning makes sense to them—when ideas are connected to experience, when questions are welcomed, and when teachers guide rather than merely instruct. Our approach to learning is progressive in the sense that it respects how children actually develop, while holding them to clear expectations and high standards appropriate to their age.
In our classrooms, students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, and explain their thinking. Teachers carefully design lessons that are purposeful and structured, combining discussion, exploration, and direct instruction as needed. Learning is active, guided, and intentional.
This approach helps students develop real understanding, not just short-term performance. They learn to reason, communicate clearly, and reflect on their work. Mistakes are treated as part of the learning process, helping students grow in confidence and resilience rather than fear of failure.
At every level, academic learning is connected to formation. Students are taught not only to be capable learners, but also responsible ones—able to work with others, persevere through difficulty, and use their abilities well.
Our goal is simple and demanding: to form students who are intellectually prepared for future schooling and grounded in values that will guide them throughout life.
